Wife of ‘virtuous paedophile’ insists she still loves him – despite being told he ‘sexually touched’ a five-year-old on live TV

THE British wife of a “non-offending paedophile” has stood by her husband on ITV’s This Morning  – despite being told he “sexually touched a five-year-old girl”.

Last week “virtuous paedo” Gary Gibson said that he is attracted to young girls but would never abuse one.

Child protection expert Mark Williams Thomas appeared on This Morning today and told Tabitha Abel her husband has “clearly said he sexually touched a five and a seven-year-old”.

This is despite the fact she has said he is a non-offender and that his paedophilia should be treated like a mental illness.

Gary, who has three adult children from a relationship before Tabitha, claims they have come to terms with the fact he is a paedophile.

He runs an organisation called ASAP International which he says helps people who are attracted to children but do not want to act on their urges.

Gary told The Sun he has never offended and that his devout Christianity means he is opposed to watching porn in any form – including looking at images of child abuse.

A presentation seen by Mr Thomas contradicts this claim.

Phillip Schofied added that he fears Tabitha is being “manipulated” because it is what these “abusers do extremely well”.

The retired nurse, who is originally from Canterbury in Kent, found out her husband was a paedophile in 2010 after she had already been married to him five years.

She still lives with Gary at their home in the state of Oregon in the USA.

Mr Thomas asked her: “Do you think your husband is a paedophile?”

Tabitha replied: “Yes I do think he is sexually attracted to children, he is a minor-attracted person.

“I believe he is a paedophile but he has not acted on that.”

Mr Thomas replied: “Let me address that.

“I’ve listened to and seen the account from his presentation.

“He very clearly says that when he was 12 he sexually touched a five and seven-year-old.

“He further goes on and says although he has touched people, although he has’t had penetrative sex, he has touched them inappropriately.”

Mr Thomas continued: “He clearly talks about watching child abuse material online, and he understands and he believes that it’s not reality – it’s a fantasy.

“Let’s be very clear – every child abused in the making of the video is real.

“Let me put it to you again in terms of your position.

“You’re a nurse, you’re a mother, do you not believe that in every single element of that he has committed sexual offences against children.”

Tabitha replied: “I think what he did when he was 12, as with a lot of children, is exploring with cousins and neighbours or whatever they do.

“I think that is unacceptable.

“I know that he has been and apologised for anything that he might have done to his cousins or with his cousins.”

She added: “This was in a group of children.

“He says that he might hug someone too long – and I remember him talking about this feeling very bad.

“I actually was there around that time.”

Mr Thomas says: “I think he says touches, it’s not just hugging, it’s actually touching.”

Presenter Phillip Schofield, who was sat next to Holly Willoughby, then says: “You said to your knowledge he does not look at anything on the internet.”

He then points to Mr Thomas and says: “You’ve just said that he has viewed things.”

He adds: “So therefore you’re being manipulated surely and that’s what these abusers do extremely well.”

Last week The Sun revealed Gary is a member of an online forum called Virtuous Paedophiles.

It has around 1,800 members who are attracted to children but claim they do not offend.

Gary said his desires are “romantic” and not “purely sexual” but admits this might not be the same for other paedophiles.

He says he typically avoids “masturbating to scenes involving children” but he “doesn’t beat himself up if that happens”.

He said: “I don’t feel bad it about because it’s not reality, I can differentiate between fantasy and reality.”

Gary and Tabitha met in 2004 and married a year later.

Tabitha, a retired nurse who was trained in Windsor, Berkshire, said: “He didn’t tell me he was a paedophile per se.

“He told me was sexually attracted to children.

“I don’t remember when I put the two and two together and said ‘he’s a paedophile.’

“I don’t consider him to be a paedophile because like most people I consider a paedophile to be a child molester – which he isn’t.

“It was a slow dawning.

“Paedophilia doesn’t mean that you’re a child molester, and I think that’s where people are caught out.”
